Introduction to The Business-Man Jay Z

Shawn Carter, aka Jay Z, has inspired millions with his music but we are that much more inspired by his  diverse interests and ventures.  The ability to go from the projects and drug dealing on the streets to be worth more than $150 million (source: Forbes Magazine) is nothing short of stellar.

Jay Z embodies the ultimate American dream and those who listen to his music are just as loyal to its raw, authentic power to reach a generation that knows the best type of smarts is using the art of the hustle and transition it to the savvy required to reach "levels" (as Jay Z quotes in Beyonce's "Drunk in Love" song/video).

I began this post after returning from an executive leadership summit where a fellow presenter used at least five Jay Z quotes to present his narrative on what it takes to be impactful in your community.  The room was filled with other leaders from around the nation.

However, this was not the first time Jay Z was so eloquently quoted to drive home a message to an audience of savvy business men and women.  I am African American and was in a room full of successful entrepreneurs (90% of whom were Caucasian males) and the presenter, also a Caucasian male, quoted Jay Z twice!  In this case, he didn't even give Jay Z props and I think the audience was oblivious to the originator of the two quotes!

As I am writing this first post, I completely understand that Jay Z can be controversial, there can be a flood of rumors about him and his life with Beyonce and some can downright disagree with whether his business ventures and decisions are genius or one made by a novice.  Regardless, this blog will serve as the landing spot for inspired discussion, business innovation inspiration and motivation and hopefully, one day, perhaps the inspire-er himself will make personal interviews that fuel our understanding of the maturation of Shawn Carter the business-man operating as Jay Z, the living hip-hop legend.

Excited!
